AKAI AMX - DJ.MG Official Mapping for Djay Pro (by Jay Neural) (DJ Juwansome edit)

Description and Instructions

This is a full mapping of the AKAI AMX for Djay Pro:mac with secondary layer (shift key), Touch mode and LED feedback.

It was created by Jay Neural for DJ.MG (DJ Mega Gear).

It's mapped as close as possible to the layout printed on the hardware and as close possible to how it works with Serato.

Following are the differences between Serato behavior and this mapping :

Differences in Layer 1 (almost perfect !) :

- SYNC OF/ON is implemented as toggle (SYNC-OFF by pushing SYNC while it's lit)

- The XFade Curve MIDI message not being supported on Djay Pro for now, I've mapped Deck 3 Volume level instead

Differences in Layer 2 (using SHIFT button) :

- The SEARCH function through the top central rotary is not implemented as this would require a second modifier which is currently not supported on Djay Pro

- SHIFT+SEARCH 1 and 2 for Activating DVS is obviously not mapped, the Key Lock on/off for each deck is mapped in place

- SHIFT-ROTARY Button will switch browser's section (Playlists/Genre/Artist...)

- SHIFT+SYNC is mapped to TAP BPM (no SYNC OFF as there-is no SYNC-OFF message implemented on Djay)

- SHIFT+PLAY enables reverse mode (toggle mode)

Differences in Touch Mode (using TOUCH button) :

- On "TOUCH" mode Filter knob is implemented with Loop-Bounce 1/4 + Filter in order to mimic behavior on Serato's AMX standard mapping but couldn't map loop length variation as it looks like the "Loop Duration" command does not work properly.

Note on VU-METER LEDs :
- A/B VU-METER LEDs working now! Master VU-METER LEDs require more research...

Hey DJ Fritz! I never really used Djay for Android so I'm not really sure how good it is at reading midi maps, unfortunately. When I used to use Djay on my iPad I was able to import the maps using iTunes file sharing, but I have no idea how you would do it on Android. Maybe you can just put it in a Djay midi map folder or something using ES File explorer or similar application? Did you try to Google it? Unfortunately I no longer have my AMX so I can't really test it, not sure if others in the community are having any luck with midi maps for Djay for Android, but hopefully it is technically possible!

Please have a look at my 2019 AMX mapping for TP3, which is the best way to unlock DVS. It has 13x layers, dozens of FXs, hundreds of features, and it comes with 26-page manual: https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/9323

hello, Juwansome, I do not own an Akia AMX, but I would like to know how the VUs were mapped, so that I can map them to my own MIDI controllers. Thanks. - Nick Lecroix

Hi there LeCroix, I opened up one of the native Djay midi maps XML file with a text editor and noticed that at the bottom there is an "outputs" section. So I copied and pasted it to my custom map at the bottom and changed them to the midi channel values that corresponded to my controller VU meters. Some manufacturers are nice enough to include those midi channels in the operation manual. For others, you have to figure it out using other software that natively works with your controller, in addition to using (free) MIDI monitor software, so see which output channels are changing when the VU LEDs change. Hope that helps!

Hi Juwansome, thanks a lot for your edit. I have since dug into those VU-METER messages for Djay and actually found not only how to map the Channel VU-METERS but also the Master VU-METERS! So I have published a v1.0 of my mapping that includes full VU-METER support as well as several other improvements and fixes: https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/4702
