u-he DIVA synth

Description and Instructions

I wanted a hardware controller for the u-he DIVA soft synth - reducing reliance on screen and mouse.  I designed a mapping that's easy to use and memorable to turn the twister into just that.  See the diagram for an overview of the mapping, then try it out!  Some specific key features:

  • All mapped parameters are accessible via encoders alone - designed for optimal tactile/'sightless' operation, without need for side buttons, keyboard, or mouse
  • Diva synth models (different oscillator, filter, envelope models) accessible at the turn of a knob
  • organization optimized for memorability; inspired by the Diva GUI
Alas, there are also a few shortcomings.  I have contacted DJTT, Ableton, and U-He about these problems, and currently are limitations within these interacting systems.  Some of these should be improved with firmware upgrades for the midi fighter twister.  If you think you have a work-around for any of these, please contact me or upload an edit!

  • Midi mapping currently only used when opening the included .als file.  I've spoken to Ableton support, they currently do not facilitate importing of midi mappings.
  • some color errors when loading new DIVA patches: Matias at DJTT suggested this could be fixed within a month or two of midi fighter twister firmware upgrades
  • detent encoders don't quite zero: this arises from details in midi mapping... not a huge issue.e
  • no good solution for mouse-free midi patch changes.  I had implemented this in a previous version, but it required a separate clip for each patch
Looking forward to feedback.
Cheers,
T

Hi, Does this only work with one instance of Diva? It only works for the diva thats loaded already in the project, if I duplicate the DIVA instance, the second instance stop responding with the fighter twister
