Launch Control For Remix Decks

Description and Instructions

This set up lets you use the Novation Launch Control's pads and knobs to trigger clips, capture loops and control fx and various other aspects of the remix decks in Traktor.

You will need to set the Launch Control onto factory template number 4 and before you start using the mapping, you will need to press number 2 pad as this mapping makes use of the deck focus selector modifier. Pressing the number 2 pad will activate the controller properly for use.

I have set it up so you can trigger all of the cells, in all of the pages, on decks C & D. To do this I have configured the arrow keys on the device to select different modes for controlling.

NEW IN VERSION 6:
FX MODE: Take full control of effects, with mode to select fx unit group/single and fx selector. Instructions for this can be found in the FX MODE chapter.
LOAD DECK: This will load remix sets into remix decks and will also load a track into a track deck. As of the 2.8.0 Traktor Pro update, this will change the flavour of the deck, depending on whether you're loading a remix set or a track. Instructions for this can be found in the TRANSPORT MODE chapter.
SYNC ON/OFF: Does what it says, turns sync on/off for the decks. Instructions for this can be found in the TRANSPORT MODE chapter.
TEMPO BEND: Now you can alter the phase of the decks, just in case you didn't quite catch it on the one. Instructions for this can be found in the TRANSPORT MODE chapter.

I have divided the number pads (1-8) on the Launch Control into two groups; where the first group (1-4) always control either PAGE SELECTOR, TRANSPORT, FX or SLOT MODIFIER modes; and the second group (5-8) always control either TRIGGER SLOTS, STOP/UNLOAD/LOAD SLOTS, FILTER ON/ OFF or FX MODE. It is only in FX MODE, where the controls are spread over all 8 of the number pads.

Arrow Pads

Left Arrow Pad:
This pad controls 3 different modes; TRANSPORT MODE(OFF), SLOT MODIFIER MODE(DIM) and PAGE SELECTOR(BRIGHT). Each press of the LEFT arrow pad switches between these modes, in a cyclical manor and the LED's on the pad will light up to tell you what mode you are in. It goes from OFF, DIM and then BRIGHT, where the cycle starts again at OFF.
Right Arrow Pad:
This pad controls 3 different modes; TRIGGER SLOT MODE(OFF), FILTER ON/OFF(DIM) and FX MODE(BRIGHT). Each press of the RIGHT arrow pad switches between these modes, in a cylical manor and the LED's on the pad will light up to tell you what mode you are in. It goes from OFF, DIM and then BRIGHT, where the cycle starts again at OFF.
Down Arrow Pad:
When you are in TRIGGER SLOT MODE, this pad selects what row of the remix deck you can trigger, stop, delete, unload and load samples onto. This works in a downwards motion in the remix deck. The LED's on the UP and DOWN arrow pads light up to tell you what row it is controlling.
If the UP arrow pad is lit up DIM, then you are in control of the first row of slots.
If the UP arrow pad is lit up BRIGHT, then you are in control of the second row of slots.
If the DOWN arrow pad is lit up DIM, then you are in control of the third row of slots.
If the DOWN arrow pad is lit up BRIGHT, then you are in control of the fourth row of slots.
The pad will continue to go down the remix deck. When it reaches the end of a page, the next page in the remix deck will turn and the cycle restarts again, until it reaches the last row of the last page, where it stops.
When you are in FX MODE, this acts in a similar way to the TRIGGER SLOT MODE, only now you select 5 sub-modes within FX MODE. The LED's also work in a similar way too.
Up Arrow Pad:
When you are in TRIGGER SLOT MODE, this pad selects what row of the remix deck you can trigger, stop, delete, unload and load samples onto. This works in a upwards motion in the remix deck.
When the UP pad is lit up DIM, if you press the pad, the LED will turn OFF and you are now able to see what slots are playing, loaded or empty and you will be able to stop/unload/load samples into the respective slots.
When you are in FX MODE, this acts in a similar way to the TRIGGER SLOT MODE, only now you select 5 sub-modes within FX MODE. The LED's also work in a similar way too.

TRIGGER SLOT MODE

The last four number pads (5-8) are designed to trigger the samples in each of the slots, but this is only active when the UP or DOWN arrow pads are either lit up DIM or BRIGHT. Pressing the UP or DOWN arrow pads, will make the LED's light up. Depending on the configuration of the LED's will determine what row of slots you are making active. This is always the same, regardless of what page of the remix deck you are in but when in FX MODE, this function is de-activated. The UP and DOWN arrow pads will also change the LED's on the PAGE SELECTOR MODE.

PAGE SELECTOR MODE

When the LEFT arrow pad is lit up BRIGHT, then you are in the Remix Deck page selector mode. Here you will notice that the first four number pads (1-4) will be lit up and upon pressing one of these, the LED's respond in a way to show you what page is selected. You will also notice that the UP arrow pad will be lit up DIM, once you have pressed one of the PAGE SELECTOR pads. This will mean that the TRIGGER SLOT selector will be on the first row of slots, for the given page and that the last four number pads (5-8) will now be active to TRIGGER samples. The UP and DOWN arrow pads will also effect the PAGE SELECTOR and will even change their LED status.

STOP/UNLOAD/LODE SLOTS MODE

There are two ways this mode is active. The first is when both the UP or DOWN arrow pads are not lit up and the second is when the SLOT MODIFIER MODE is active (by pressing the LEFT arrow pad so that it is lit up DIM and the number 1 pad is ORANGE) and by holding number pad 4 and the slot you want to STOP/UNLOAD/LOAD.

TRANSPORT MODE

This mode is active by pressing the LEFT arrow pad and is not lit up (OFF). This mode only alters what the first four number pads (1-4) function as. The number 1 pad acts as a modifier in this mode and allows there to be 6 functions that affect the remix deck. Number pad 1 will be coloured GREEN or RED to tell you what functions are available.

GREEN: The second number pad (2) allows you to switch between Deck C and D. This will switch all of the controls to the desired deck. You will need to press this button upon starting Traktor, as the controls for most of this mapping use the Deck Selector modifier.
The third number pad (3) allows you to load a remix set onto the deck.
The fourth number pad (4) allows you to turn sync on/ off.

RED: The second number pad (2) allows you to control Play/ Pause. This also resets the phase counter.
The third number pad (3) allows you tempo bend down.
The fourth number pad (4) allows you tempo bend up.

SLOT MODIFIER MODE

This mode is active by pressing the LEFT arrow pad and is lit up DIM. This mode only alters what the first four number pads (1-4) function as. As with the TRANSPORT MODE, the number 1 pad acts as a modifier in this mode and allows there to be 6 functions that affect the remix deck and slots. Number pad 1 will be coloured YELLOW or ORANGE to tell you what functions are available.

YELLOW: The second number pad (2) allows you to switch between Track and Remix Decks.
The third number pad (3) allows you to switch the quantise function on/ off.
The fourth number pad (4) allows you to turn the filter on the mixer section on/ off.

ORANGE: The second number pad (2) is the Capture modifier. By holding down this pad and by pressing a TRIGGER pad (5-8) you can capture a loop from a Track deck. To select which deck to capture from, turn the second knob on the bottom row.
The third number pad (3) is the Load modifier. By holding down this pad and by pressing a TRIGGER pad (5-8) you can load a sample, from the browser list, into a slot.
The fourth number pad (4) is the Stop/Unload/Load modifier. By holding down this pad and by pressing a TRIGGER pad (5-8) you can Stop/Unload/Load a sample in a slot. Note that this pad doesn't need to be held down if the UP or DOWN arrow pads are not lit up and pad number 4 is lit up.

FILTER ON/OFF ADJUST MODE

This mode is active by pressing the RIGHT arrow pad once and is lit up DIM. This mode only alters what the last four number pads (5-8) function as. Here you can turn the filters for each slot, on or off. You can control the Filter amount by using knobs 5 to 8 on the bottom row (this will only not be active when the FX MODE is active and sub-modes 2-5 are active).

FX MODE

This mode is active by pressing the RIGHT arrow pad, until the RIGHT and LEFT arrow pad are both lit up BRIGHT. This mode will alter all of the functions of the number pads (1-8). Whilst in FX MODE, the UP and DOWN arrow pads control what the number pads (1-8) are in control of and these work in a similar way to the TRIGGER SLOTS MODE, where you press the UP and DOWN arrow pad to cycle through the sub-modes. I have sectioned up FX MODE into 5 different sub-modes. They are FX UNIT 1-4 ON/OFF and SLOT FX ON/OFF (sub-mode 1), FX 1-4 UNIT ON/BUTTONS (sub-mode 2 and 3) and FX SELECTOR and FX UNIT MODE SELECTOR (sub-mode 4 and 5).

Sub-mode 1; FX UNIT 1-4 ON/OFF and SLOT FX ON/OFF:
This is active when none of the UP or DOWN arrow pads are lit up. If any of them are lit up, you can press the UP arrow pad until the LED's turn OFF. The first four pads (1-4) turn on/off the four FX sends on the mixer and the last four number pads (5-8) turn on/off the individual FX sends for the slots. You can control the FX send amount by using knobs 5 to 8 on the bottom row (this is only active in sub-mode 1). You also have control of SLOT VOLUME, GAIN & EQ, MAIN VOLUME (MIXER), QUANTISE ADJUST, CAPTURE SOURCE SELECTOR and MAIN FILTER ADJUST (MIXER) as you would in other modes, in this sub-mode.

Sub-mode 2 and 3: FX 1-4 UNIT ON/BUTTONS
This mode is active when the UP arrow pad is either lit up DIM or BRIGHT. If none of the arrow pads are lit up, then pressing the DOWN arrow pad once or twice will get you into these sub-modes. If the DOWN arrow pad is lit up at all, then pressing the UP arrow pad until it lights up will also get you into these sub-modes. DIM tells you that you have control of fx unit 1 on number pads 1-4 and fx unit 2 on number pads 5-8. BRIGHT tells you that you have control of fx unit 3 on number pads 1-4 and fx unit 4 on number pads 5-8. Entering into this sub-mode allows the 16 knobs to work as the fx unit knobs and dry/wet, for total control.

Sub-mode 4 and 5: FX UNIT MODE SELECTOR and FX SELECTOR
This mode is active when the DOWN arrow pad is either lit up DIM or BRIGHT. DIM tells you that you have control of fx unit 1 on number pads 1-4 and fx unit 2 on number pads 5-8. BRIGHT tells you that you have control of fx unit 3 on number pads 1-4 and fx unit 4 on number pads 5-8. If none of the arrow pads are lit up or just the UP arrow pads are, then pressing the DOWN arrow pad will eventually get you into these sub-modes. Here number pads 1 and 5 swich from group and single fx modes. Number pads 2,3,4,6,7 and 8 select different fx depending if you are in single or group mode. I have selected some fx for you to play with but you can choose any fx you like by finding the effect selector controls within the mapping. Please note, that for the LED's to show up correctly, you will need the FX to be in the default layout or you would need to change the contoller range in the mapping to reflect where the effects appear in your own layout.

To exit FX MODE, you can press either the LEFT or RIGHT arrow pads. The LEFT pad will take you to TRANSPORT MODE and the RIGHT pad will take you to PAGE SELECTOR MODE.

Slot Volume

This is controlled by the last four knobs (5-8) on the top row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Gain & EQ

This is controlled by the first four knobs (1-4) on the top row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Main Volume (Mixer)

This is controlled by the first knob (1) on the bottom row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Capture Source Selector

This is controlled by the second knob (2) on the bottom row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Quantise Adjust

This is controlled by the third knob (3) on the bottom row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Main Filter Adjust (Mixer)

This is controlled by the fourth knob (4) on the bottom row. This is always the same apart from when you are in sub-modes 2-5 in FX MODE.

Slot Filter Adjust

This is controlled by the last four knobs (5-8) on the bottom row. The only time this is not active is when the FX MODE is selected.

Slot FX Send Adjust

This is controlled by the last four knobs (5-8) on the bottom row. The only time this is active is when the FX MODE is selected and sub-mode 1 is active.

Dude can you make a video tutorial for your mapping? would be great!
Gregwaah almost 7 years ago

Hi there, sorry for my late reply. I would love to make a video, as I am quite aware that this mapping is quite hard to get your head around. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to do this. I also have another mapping, that I call my Ultimate Mapping, which does pretty much everything you would want to do with Traktor on every deck. I haven't put it on here due to it being such a head wrecker.
