Angel's DJM 900 Nexus Performance Mapping

Description and Instructions

This mapping is by far my favorite, as a club DJ/turntablist who combines heavy controller use in my sets (the Maschine Mikro is my current centerpiece) I want and need as many features at my fingertips keeping me away from my laptop when making a lot of quick transitions between tracks. I use this mapping day in and day out and I'm constantly experimenting with different features and settings to make the 900 Nexus ever more useful in the booth.

I developed this mapping with the thought in mind that the controller I'd be using along with my two deck timecode/DVS setup has no or very few knobs or encoders like my Mikro or a Midi Fighter 3D. so I can use key adjust for various routines and mixes on the fly with a knob over buttons.

I'll have a picture describing what the features of the Nexus does soon,

After downloading and installing the mapping into Traktor you will only need to select 900 Nexus In, you cannot set a midi out single with the Nexus so leave it as is. Make sure the midi ON button is lit which is located on the top right corner of the 900 Nexus above the Effects display screen.

Traktor settings: Make sure you have "Load to Stop Decks Only" Disabled. If you are using CDJs or DVS with Turntables, you want to be able to load the next track even if the deck is spinning. This can be changed in Traktor settings under Loading. Make sure you DO NOT have the box checked.

For Turntable users, you will need to re-route the input/output settings inside traktor to make Ch1 - Ch2 on the mixer control all the anolog audio settings over the default Ch1  - Ch4 Timecode setting of the 900.
First go to Preferences > Input Routing > External Mode > Deck A Input - DJM 900 NEXUS INPUT 1&2, Deck B 3&4. (or 0-1 & 2-3 on Mac).
Now go, Preferences > Output Routing > Deck A Output - DJM900 Nexus OUTPUT 1&2, Deck B Output, 3&4 (0-1, 2-3 on Mac).

Your two shift buttons are the LINK CUE button and the FX CUE Button on the mixer. Once on, your Color FX knobs will control either Tempo or Key inside traktor. Be careful to not have filter or another color effect turned on when using it unless intentional.

LINK CUE - Shift for Key: Deck 1 & 2 color knob controls the key adjust.
FX CUE - Shift for Tempo: Deck 3 & 4 color knob controls the tempo adjust for Deck A or B (3 is A - 4 is B) which will often go unused in this 2 deck setup, this keeps Deck 1 & 2 Color effect knob free for using the filter or other color FX's when using the knob for tempo adjust.

FADER START BUTTONS: The fader start buttons are mapped to load the next track in the playlist for DECK A & B (Ch 1 - 2). Deck C & D are set to Load selection track (3 - 4) With this feature, you must be in a playlist, as Traktor will not load the next track in the preparation folder. Just make a new playlist for prep or for tracks you are using that night. Once you load your first track in that playlist, the "Load next track" feature will work and it will just go down this list without having to highlight and select which track you want to play next manual.

Do note! The 900 Nexus does not have a gate/hold feature so buttons are always set to toggle mode. In this case, when you have loaded a track, the Fader Start button will be lit, you can hit it once to turn the light off without any issues to get ready to load the next track in that deck when ready. I call this the "Double Tap." It was wonky at first, but I now find it as a good visual to know I have a live track loaded since I use Traktor with "Load into Stop Decks Only" Disabled.

This is the third mapping of my series of 4 different mappings I have developed for the Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus that will really unlike its usability with midi and give you some fun and useful options for both controller and DVS users can add to their live sets and performances.
